The contest is open to the following age groups: Ages: 8-10 Prize: $50 Scholarship Ages: 11-13 Prize: $100 Scholarship Ages: 14-16 Prize $175 Scholarship Ages: 17-19 Prize: $250 Scholarship 2008 Essay Challenge: Entrant must answer the following six (6) questions and put them in essay form as followed by the qualifying age group guidelines. 1) Why do you think it is important, now more than ever, to vote for president of these United States? 2) In your own words, what is the role of the president of these United States? 3) If you were president of these United States, what would be the first issue you would vow to resolve? 4) Do you think that as a minority you should vote for a minority candidate? If yes, why? If no, why not? 5) Do you think your generation will realize that it is up to them to secure our future? If yes, why? If no, why not? 6) Regardless of who wins the presidential election, do you think they will make a real difference? Guidelines: Project is open to minority entrants (African-American and Latino) who are United States citizens fitting the above specified age groups. Entrants will be judged on sincerity, creativity, originality, idealism, grammar and structure. The essay must be double spaced and typed with a black 12-point font. (Please see website for accepted fonts). The essay will be between three (3) and ten (10) pages in length. (Please see website for page guidelines). Entrants must type their name, date, word count and contact information (i.e. address or e-mail address and pone number ) and age in upper right hand corner of the page. Each page must be numbered. Cover pages are okay. Submissions received outside of posted guidelines will automatically be eliminated. If you would like your essay returned, please also include a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). Any submissions without a SASE will not be returned. In addition to scholarships, the top ten essays will be compiled into an anthology and published by Literary Wonders! and sent to the local library of the winning entrant as well as being featured in writing publications to be later announced.
