Although her education was in information technology, Mrs. Johnson-Bryant’s decision to start the business was due to her frustration at her son’s lack of desire to read. Mrs. Johnson-Bryant has always loved to read and write and was confused at to why her son had not picked up the same trait. Determined to teach her children the love of reading and writing, Mrs. Johnson-Bryant decided to home-school her children for a couple of years. She was pleased that her daughter had taken up the same excitement for reading and writing, but still could not figure out why her son did not like either. After researching statistics and going into schools, churches and other youth programs, she decided she had to do her part to make a difference in the United States literacy problem that continues to run rampant in minority households and schools today. Literary Wonders! is a multi-tiered business. It provides literacy advocate that gives support to authors, especially new authors, providing reading and writing resources especially those looking to self-publish. Its entity also focuses on minority children and conducts an annual scholarship program called “The Scholarship Project” for children from age 81 to 21 years of age. Each year qualified participants are given an essay question and are judged on various aspects of the essay. The winners receive a monetary award in the form of a scholarship. Literary Wonders! is currently seeking to become a non-profit entity in 2011. Although, we do not solicit, we do accept sponsorship and donations from individual donors, corporations, organizations and the such, so that bigger and better prizes can be given to the winners. This will also allow Literary Wonders! to provide more community programs, tutoring and after school programs and workshops. It is Literary Wonders! desire to be more active and make a bigger impact in the community. Literary Wonders! aims to help authors from all genres, as long as the material is not deemed offensive. However, it really does focus on work from the African-American community as, African Americans have the lowest highest illiteracy rate especially when it comes to when it comes to reading and writing. Literary Wonders! also conducts an annual “Anthology Project”, where it’s goal is to combine a mix of seasoned writers with new writers.
